Hi, I’m Jodi-Ann and I’m working at the intersection of human rights, international law, and media. Welcome to my world of human rights advocacy, where passion meets expertise to drive positive change on a global scale!

With experience at the United Nations (UN), the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), and the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), I strive to amplify the voices and concerns of those who need it the most.

Academic Achievements:

  • LL.B. with honors from the University of the West Indies in 2012.

  • Legal Education Certificate from Norman Manley Law School in 2014.

  • Became the first CARICOM woman to receive the Rómulo Gallegos Fellowship at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in 2015.

  • Earned an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from the University of Notre Dame, becoming the first CARICOM attorney admitted to the program.

United Nations Fellowship:

  • Privileged to be the first CARICOM Attorney selected as a United Nations Fellow for People of African Descent in 2018.

  • Sole Caribbean representative named that year.

Advocacy and Legal Work:

  • Advocated for language rights in the Jamaican Constitution.

  • Assisted in the release of persons detained in Jamaica for over 30 years without conviction.

  • Contributed to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) in their first "human rights" decision, the Shanique Myrie case.

  • Ranked international mooter, winning several competitions and awards.

CEO Experience:

  • Former CEO of The American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AMCHAM Jamaica), promoting trade and investment between the US and Jamaica while encouraging adherence to the rule of law.

Journalism and Broadcasting Work:

  • Currently hosting a weekday talk show on Jamaican radio, the “Morning Agenda” on Power 106 FM, part of the RJRGleaner Communications group. This is the largest media group in the English-speaking Caribbean.

  • The show is nationally recognized for its fair and balanced coverage of Jamaican news and current affairs, credited for sparking change on a wide range of national issues.

I'm dedicated to making a difference through my work in international human rights law through the power of legal advocacy, policy analysis, research, consulting, and education to advance human rights for all.

I. Human Rights Lawyer/Advocate: As a seasoned human rights lawyer and advocate, I bring a wealth of experience in representing clients, drafting legal documents, and advocating for policy change. My skills include:

  • Legal Research and Analysis: Diligently researching international human rights law to build strong legal cases.

  • Negotiation and Mediation: Finding common ground and negotiating settlements to resolve disputes.

  • Advocacy: Amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and advocating for their rights.

II. Policy Analyst: As a policy analyst, I analyze human rights policies and legislation to identify gaps and propose solutions. My expertise includes:

  • Policy Analysis: Evaluating the impact of policies on human rights and recommending improvements.

  • Data Analysis: Using data to assess policy effectiveness and inform evidence-based decision-making.
